As discussed, we are moving this cruise to the Crystal River. We visited Twin Rivers Marina (www.ilovemymarina.com) Saturday to check it out. This is a fishing marina so the docks are pretty basic and although there are bathrooms and a shower (in the women’s only) it is pretty rustic. Also, be advised there is no pool at the marina.
We will trailer up on Friday night stay at the marina and then Saturday spend the whole day anchored out at King’s Bay (often called “the boil”) where we will have the “Noodle Olympics” and a progressive dinner. The water is deep and “spring” cold here so we will tie all the boats together, alternating bow and stern anchors. King’s Bay is only 1.5 miles from the marina so in early evening we will head back to the marina where we will have power to run the a/c. Of course, you can opt to anchor out all night as well. We used to do that, but that was before everyone ran a generator for the a/c.
There are limited slips available (10-15 only) based on the when the permanent residents are there. Call the marina at 352 795 3552 to reserve your slip. The CFC rate is $1.25 per foot which includes 30 amp power and water. There is a covered but open pavilion near the ship store where we can gather for games when we get back. The boat ramp appears excellent. Follow the directions to the marina and when you turn on Ft. Island Trail you will see ramp signs…it’s about 4.5 miles up the road or 1/4 mile before the marina entrance. It’s a nice parking area with restrooms too.
Please email me if you are coming (after you make your reservations) so I can plan the games and dinner. I’m going to try a progressive dinner if I have enough people willing to contribute. If you don’t know what that is…we need someone to do an appetizer, another person to do salad, a soup course is optional, then I’ll be providing pulled pork for the entree, then we move to an optional cheese course and, or course, dessert. You move from boat to boat for each course so they will need to be small portions and easy to hand out, in case we have a large turn out and considering some people may be treading water.
Sunday, we can run down to Homasassa Springs if anyone wants to check it out as we are only a short ways from the Gulf. PS: Start getting in shape for the “Noodle Olympics” by eating a lot of pasta…hee hee.
