Fort Pierce City Marina

Our Ft Pierce trip featured nearly perfect weather, although it was a bit windy. The City Marina is a really nice facility and their staff was very accommodating. Our members arrived at the marina Friday, allowing them time to explore the local restaurants and shops. The advertised classic car drive-in was nowhere to be found on Friday night; however the Farmer’s Market certainly made up for it on Saturday. It was huge and absolutely packed with people enjoying all they had to offer, with everything ranging from a delicious meal, buying local grown fruits and vegetables, or admiring the local art work. The event even featured a band, with many locals making a day of it, bringing chairs to lounge and enjoy the music. The 32nd annual Florida Cracker Trail Ride across the state ended with a parade at 10 a.m. Saturday through downtown Fort Pierce. The initial ride began after the Civil War, as a group of settlers known as Florida Crackers gathered west of Fort Pierce to drive their giant herd of scrub cattle across the state toward Bradenton and then to Punta Rassa before shipping them to Havana. The Cracker Trail was the only dry route across Florida with the Kissimmee River and its floodplains to the north and Lake Okeechobee and the Everglades to the south. This event
was quite an unexpected treat! On Saturday night, everyone gathered for docktails which provided a delicious variety of food then the group continued to relax that evening on the docks with great conversations. The 50-50 was won by the Jacksons, hopefully future members. Two boats stayed until Monday for another enjoyable day in Ft Pierce; their return trip was met with wind out of the north and 25 MPH gusts… Overall, everyone seemed to enjoy the weekend as evidenced by the smiles on their faces!
